Interview With a Goth - Tenebris In Lux

Name? Kati

Goth alias? Tenebris In Lux.

Age? Anywhere from 15 - 19 years.

Relationship status? In a relationship.

Where are you hailing from? Small house in America. Meh.

Favourite author and book? That's a tough one. I don't really have a favorite book, but I have favorites, so I think I'll list some authors. I'm really into the short story genre, so we have some Stephen King, Vivian Vande Velde, etc. We also have the amazing H. P. Lovecraft and Anne Rice. But as far as poetry, I go to classics like Lord Byron, Poe, Keats, (Emily) Dickinson, Baudelaire, and even Maya Angelou.

What is your favourite band, song and movie? Out of all the bands I know, picking a favorite was always seen as a small inconvenience, something that I didn't need to do. But I do have a favorite band: that would be Agalloch. My favorite song changes so much, I dare you to see if it stays the same after next year! But right now, it's Where I'm Going by Cut Copy, but a common earbug at the moment would be Breaking The Girl by the Red Hot Chill Peppers (don't laugh, I guess it's one of those clingy summery songs). And as far as movies .. I don't exactly have a favorite movie. And the ones I like are cheesy, or so many people think!

If you were only allowed to use one cosmetic for the rest of your life what would it be? Black mascara, because it's the only cosmetic I own at the moment!

List 3 things we’d find in your handbag/backpack if we opened it now: \my "work" binder (contains notes full of bands I need to check out, future concerts, radio show plans), a bike lock, and a sturdy small black umbrella.

Are there any things you never leave the house without? Sunscreen.

Favourite season? Autumn. Probably not because I was born in autumn (well .. technically my birthday is a few days short of September 21st!), but where I live .. there are a lot of fairs and celebrations due to harvests and whatnot. Fun stuff. I highly recommend the experience of picking your own pumpkins and apples, eating local brats and other meat, as well as looking at farm animals! It's still magical for me.

In your opinion what colour looks best on you? I would say black, but I adventure a little more than that. I like to practice androgyny (I am a female who doesn't really embrace the female look), so you will find more "masculine" colors, too: navy blues, browns, dark greens, greys, reds, and even some deep violent colors.

What subgenre of goth do you think you fit into/ have you created your own? I started out as a *gasp* metalhead (person who enjoys metal music), but I've ventured into a casual, GothRocker look with an eensy amount of Industrial, as well as some GrungeGoth. I experiment!

Where would we find you on a Saturday evening? Either of the following: local coffee shop, cemetery, book store, record/vinyl/CD/music store, used book store, antique store, bike trail, someone's house, or just stuck in my own room.

Discovered any good goth-related websites lately and care to share them? Sure! Here are a few:

http://gothtips.tumblr.com/

http://mothmouth-throughthelookingglass.blogspot.com/

http://cookingchinchillas.blogspot.com/

http://gothicprofessor.blogspot.com/

Anything in particular you’re into at the mo’? David Bowie's amazing The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust album, comedies done by Noel Fielding, The Mighty Boosh, and campaigns to save the wolves of America and campaigns to save the bats of America.

Best live band performance you’ve seen? I've only been to one concert *shame* but it was really good. You guys probably aren't super enthusiastic about punk music, but I could be wrong! The headlining band that played was called The Frantic, and I was able to meet their singer and drummer. The best part would be that I might -- most likely! -- will interview them on my radio show.

Like to share an interesting fact about yourself? I know 2,000+ bands. This isn't new news if you have been following me already.

Favourite piece of clothing you own? Probably my grey jeans. I know, sounds strange, but I've owned black slacks for as long as I remembered, so grey jeans are kind of refreshing. I own two pairs currently.

Favourite accessory? My DIY hats! Preferably my DIY top hat and DIY fedora hat ^^

Any bodymods? Only my ear lobes, but I'm aiming to get my eyebrows pierced sometime soon, maybe more ear piercings. Tattoos are also likely in the future.

Biggest pet peeve about the goth scene? Arguing about what music is "real" music as far as Goth. A lot of the earlier bands that got the scene started were post punk, not Goth. But it's seen as hypocritical (to some) when a Goth gets really popular and makes non-Goth music?

If you had the chance to meet any one in human history who would it be? That's tough. Um .. maybe one of the poets I mentioned, one that is no longer with us? I can't think of just one .. this is a tricky question!

Any parting comments? If you are still interested in the nature of me, you can check me out on my blog: http://n-epoap.blogspot.com

I help with music recommendations, so if you give me some background as to what music you like, I can most certainly try! Not that many people have offered suggestions themselves, but I do take those. Bands that are smaller or aren't on a label get more attention from me. My show is mediocre, yes, but I have a steady fan base considering I have a show that's now a year old! Word spreads quickly, especially if it is a favorite underground radio. Sadly, I do not give out the radio station's name due to how it would give away my location, but here are some logged songs: http://n-epoap0radio.blogspot.com

Stay original, stay spooky!

Interview With a Goth - Kitty Lovett

This week's victim is the lovely Kitty from Bloggery of a Gothcat!

Photo by me! Can you see he joy seeping from her pores?

Name: Kitty Edwards

Age: Seventeen. Well. In a month and two days I will be.

Orientation: Bisexual

Cosmically complicated relationship. There's pokemon involved.

Where are you hailing from? Gallifrey. ("Is that in Ireland?" "....must be.") In all seriousness, I claim Byron Bay, NSW Australia as my hometown.

What is your favourite band, song and movie?

Favourite band: The Cat Empire, old Nightwish, although from a quick look on my iToomz, it becomes apparent that everything I like is from musicals. I do have some favourite bands.

Song: At the moment? Michael Ball's (lul) rendition of "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables".

Movie: Funny Girl, and Ginger Snaps - it's a more-or-less tie.

Favourite author and book? Terry Pratchett, although if you make me choose I will never forgive you. (it's probably a four-way tie between Reaper Man, Guards! Guards!, Thief of Time and Men at Arms)

If you were only allowed to use one cosmetic for the rest of your life what would it be? My favourite black eyeshadow. Because lip balm isn't cosmetic, I could use it as shadow, liner and lipstick. ;3

List 3 things we’d find in your handbag/backpack if we opened it now:

My wallet, my Nintendo DS and either my Vampire Red or metallic purple lipsticks. Usually water but that's on my bed at the moment. 8>

Where would we find you on a Saturday evening? Usually at home or at Heather's place, reading.

Anything in particular you’re into at the mo’? Making Adora Bell Dearheart's costume from "Terry Pratchett's Going Postal". (look it up. her skirt is ENORMOUS)

Best live band performance you’ve seen? I don't know! D: That time I saw the Waifs when I was ten or so was pretty amazing.

Like to share an interesting fact about yourself? According to my singing teacher, I could be a model as well as a fantastic soprano. I told her I'm too short - a fact the Green Fairy can attest to. :P

Favourite piece of clothing you own? Probably my pinstripe corset, or my Doc Martens (which are my everyday go-to shoes!)

Favourite accessory? Probably my locket. Or, actually, my new velvet Mad hatter tophat.

Any bodymods? My nose and my ears. Hopefully my lip soon (i was tempted to do it the other day when my sister was getting her tattoo, but I was too ill).

Biggest pet peeve about the goth scene? The cost! Other than that, I find the huge majority of the community I've met to be very lovely and sweet.

If you had the chance to meet any one in human history who would it be? Her Majesty Queen Victoria, or the Queen Consort Alexandra of Denmark (the wife of Edward VII). And, to push my answer on a bit more, probably Dame Joan Sutherland.

Any parting comments? Party on, Wayne! ;3

Interview With a Goth - Catacombxkitten

Today's victim is Saskia of The Graveyard Picnic!

Name? Saskia

Goth alias? I use the username CatacombKitten or CatacombxKitten, so I suppose that's my alias.

Age? 20

Relationship status? In a relationship

Where are you hailing from? I was born in Antwerp, Belgium, but now I live in a tiny stupid little town. During the school year I'm in Leuven, though.

What is your favourite band, song and movie? My favourite band... Voltaire, I suppose. Last year I travelled all the way to Oslo, Norway with two friends to see him. This year I'm going to see him in London. Other favourites are Emilie Autumn, London After Midnight, IAMX and Abney Park.

I change my mind about favourite songs all the time, but a couple of my favourites are Protège moi by Placebo, Sleepwalker by Adam Lambert, Graveyard Picnic by Voltaire (hence my blog's title), Airship Pirate by Abney Park and 306 by Emilie Autumn.
Favourite movie would be either the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Bram Stoker's Dracula or Labyrinth. I really enjoyed Sucker Punch too, but I've only seen it once so far, so I'm not sure yet.

Favourite author and book? I love anything that's written by Oscar Wilde or Jane Austen. Other than their works, I like Lord of the Rings (Tolkien), Memoirs of a Geisha (Arthur Golden), The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls (Emilie Autumn), the Southern Vampire Mysteries (Charlaine Harris) and I'm a Harry Potter nerd. There's so many more I could mention here, I read way too much.

If you were only allowed to use one cosmetic for the rest of your life what would it be? Hard one. Either black liquid eyeliner or black mascara.

List 3 things we’d find in your handbag/backpack if we opened it now My camera, a paper notebook, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Are there any things you never leave the house without? Nothing interesting, my wallet and my cell phone, probably. Sometimes I even leave those at home, when I'm taking the dog for a walk for instance.

Favourite season? Every season has its charms.

In your opinion what colour looks best on you? Black, obviously. I also really like purple.

What subgenre of goth do you think you fit into/ have you created your own? I mix and match a lot. One day I feel like wearing something very fancy with lots of petticoats, the other I wear ripped fishnets and studded belts. I'm a goth with influences from Victorian clothing, EGL, steampunk, pin-up, vampires, pirates, fairytales and anything I see that I think is pretty.

Where would we find you on a Saturday evening? Nowadays, I'm usually at home, either studying, reading, watching a movie/series. I do like to go out, but I don't do that very often. I'm more likely to do something with friends, like playing board games or watching movies.

Discovered any good goth-related websites lately and care to share them? Not really, but I'm completely addicted to Tumblr right now. You can find so many pretty things there.

Anything in particular you’re into at the mo’? DIY'ing. I never really dared to try making stuff on my own, 'cause I'm very clumsy, but my first tries haven't turned out too bad. Sewing doesn't go too well, though, since I have to do everything by hand.

Best live band performance you’ve seen? Either Voltaire or Emilie Autumn. Voltaire knows how to entertain a crowd and while Emilie Autumn's show is simply unique.

Like to share an interesting fact about yourself? I've practised karate ever since I was six years old, I've got a brown belt now and hope to do my exam for black belt in March 2012.

Favourite piece of clothing you own? Right now, my very first EGL skirt from Dracula clothing. It's so poofy! I also love my Spin Doctor blouse with ruffles.

Favourite accessory? I don't wear a lot of jewellery, but I do really like cameos and chokers. Right now I have an obsession with fascinators, I'm making one myself.

Any bodymods? I used to have a belly button piercing, a helix and a nose piercing, but the nose piercing I took out; the helix fell out and I couldn't get to the shop to get a new one, so it closed up. I've still got the one in my belly button, though.

Biggest pet peeve about the goth scene? It's not always the case, but on many occasions people who don't have enough money to be dressed to the nines are looked down upon. Students don't have as much money and I always love to see outfits that have been put together with little money, simply because they take a much larger effort and are often much more original. I can't stand the arrogance of some older goths towards younger ones, simply because they can't afford expensive outfits.

If you had the chance to meet any one in human history who would it be? Oscar Wilde. Everything I've read and learned about him is amazing and I'm sure that being able to talk to him for a few hours would be very inspirational.

Any parting comments? To anyone who is new in the goth scene: don't be too scared about whether something might or might not be goth. Every goth has a few things he or she's crazy about that don't have anything to do with goth.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks Saskia for an interesting peak inside your thoughts!

Interview With a Goth - Tek Error

Name? Beli

Goth alias? Tek Error ... It's something from my cyber-goth period long time ago but I kept it because everyone knows me by that one :)

Age? 20

Orientation? Biseksual: I'm more attracted to girls but never met the right one. Then I met Myles, a boy.

Relationship status? Taken for already 4 years by Myles

Where are you hailing from? Antwerp, Belgium

What is your favourite band, song and movie? Sopor Aeternus - The sleeper. His music goes very deep and is to me true goth music. Movie? hmmm that would be Beetlejuice, I loooove everything from Tim Burton! Most movies I don't watch 2 times , but Beetlejuice, oh boy, I've been watching it over and over again!

Favourite author and book? That would be "De legende van de Alfen" by Markus Heitz. It's a fantasy book that goes about the alfs that finds themselves more pure then any other race and wants to start a war.

If you were only allowed to use one cosmetic for the rest of your life what would it be? Black eyeliner; it just makes your eyes pop a little more and always perfect for a goth.

List 3 things we’d find in your handbag/backpack if we opened it now: My black Hello Kitty wallet I got from my lil' sister, my little leather purse for my basic make up (eyeliner, mascara and eye pencil, all black), my pink polkadot umbrella.

Are there any things you never leave the house without? My keys, my phone, wallet, and my umbrella. Nothing special :D

Favourite season? Everything but summer, I don't like summers here because they are way too hot and sticky to enjoy :( I'm more a Spring or Autumn type I think, but also enjoy Winter.

In your opinion what colour looks best on you? Black, but that's not really a colour so uhm .. I think dark purple :)

What subgenre of goth do you think you fit into/ have you created your own? Hmm, I don't fit really into one genre anymore because after all those years I loved to try out different genres and now I have a mix of the things I liked the most, a mix of rock-chique, cyber, and lately I love to combine it with some lolita elements.

Where would we find you on a Saturday evening? Behind my computer or my sewing machine, this past 2 years were very heavy because I studied fashion and all my time went to homework and If I had some spare time I just wanted to relax behind the pc or just sit on the couch with my bf

Discovered any good goth-related websites lately and care to share them? Oh no , not really :(

Anything in particular you’re into at the mo’? Anatomy, because it was my theme for my collection in school and also I want to draw the human body better. This got me very much into it

Best live band performance you’ve seen? Combichrist, the best show I ever went to! The music was loud and everyone was having so much fun. Also they dress up very nicely for a boyband XD

Like to share an interesting fact about yourself? I've had over 30 piercings when I was younger. Now I only have 9 left. But I cannot imagine my life without piercings at all. Also I had every hair colour except for green, yellow and orange. Gonna try those too someday :)

Favourite piece of clothing you own? My white body with red hearts on it from H&M, it is sooo cute! especially combined with a leather jacket and a poofie skirt ^_^

Favourite accessory? My candy bracelet, I made it myself out of fimo and has such lovely pastel colours!

Any bodymods? Oh I had a lot in the past but I've been cutting down. Now I own: 3 underlip piercings, 1 upperlip, septum, 2x nostril (1 on every side), 1 tongue, on both ears a stretch of 28mm. So the only ones I got left are on or around my face. And I got a octopus lady tattooed on my leg.

Biggest pet peeve about the goth scene? The arrogance

If you had the chance to meet any one in human history who would it be? Salvador Dali, I want a nice long chat with that man. His art fascinates me, but that's not all of it.

Any parting comments? No :)

Interview With a Goth

So I've wanted to start doing interviews with fellow bloggers or really any one involved in the goth subculture or the like for a while now and I finally got around to writing down a few questions. I've answered the questions myself to give you guys an idea of what it would be like for participants.

If you would like to be involved in Interview With a Goth you can comment here, nominating yourself or others (all they need is an email address) or if you would prefer you can drop me a line at sydneysomething@hotmail.com or contact me on facebook if we're connected.

All I would need is the person's answers and a nice picture of them (with permission to use it of course).

I would also like your input on the questions, whether that be suggestions for more or even concerns about any ones I've answered myself (like..I mean are they too personal etc..) I was thinking this might be a monthly thing, but if it turns out moe popular than I could make it more often.

Anyway, here we go!
