Interview With a Goth - Tek Error

Name? Beli

Goth alias? Tek Error ... It's something from my cyber-goth period long time ago but I kept it because everyone knows me by that one :)

Age? 20

Orientation? Biseksual: I'm more attracted to girls but never met the right one. Then I met Myles, a boy.

Relationship status? Taken for already 4 years by Myles

Where are you hailing from? Antwerp, Belgium

What is your favourite band, song and movie? Sopor Aeternus - The sleeper. His music goes very deep and is to me true goth music. Movie? hmmm that would be Beetlejuice, I loooove everything from Tim Burton! Most movies I don't watch 2 times , but Beetlejuice, oh boy, I've been watching it over and over again!

Favourite author and book? That would be "De legende van de Alfen" by Markus Heitz. It's a fantasy book that goes about the alfs that finds themselves more pure then any other race and wants to start a war.

If you were only allowed to use one cosmetic for the rest of your life what would it be? Black eyeliner; it just makes your eyes pop a little more and always perfect for a goth.

List 3 things we’d find in your handbag/backpack if we opened it now: My black Hello Kitty wallet I got from my lil' sister, my little leather purse for my basic make up (eyeliner, mascara and eye pencil, all black), my pink polkadot umbrella.

Are there any things you never leave the house without? My keys, my phone, wallet, and my umbrella. Nothing special :D

Favourite season? Everything but summer, I don't like summers here because they are way too hot and sticky to enjoy :( I'm more a Spring or Autumn type I think, but also enjoy Winter.

In your opinion what colour looks best on you? Black, but that's not really a colour so uhm .. I think dark purple :)

What subgenre of goth do you think you fit into/ have you created your own? Hmm, I don't fit really into one genre anymore because after all those years I loved to try out different genres and now I have a mix of the things I liked the most, a mix of rock-chique, cyber, and lately I love to combine it with some lolita elements.

Where would we find you on a Saturday evening? Behind my computer or my sewing machine, this past 2 years were very heavy because I studied fashion and all my time went to homework and If I had some spare time I just wanted to relax behind the pc or just sit on the couch with my bf

Discovered any good goth-related websites lately and care to share them? Oh no , not really :(

Anything in particular you’re into at the mo’? Anatomy, because it was my theme for my collection in school and also I want to draw the human body better. This got me very much into it

Best live band performance you’ve seen? Combichrist, the best show I ever went to! The music was loud and everyone was having so much fun. Also they dress up very nicely for a boyband XD

Like to share an interesting fact about yourself? I've had over 30 piercings when I was younger. Now I only have 9 left. But I cannot imagine my life without piercings at all. Also I had every hair colour except for green, yellow and orange. Gonna try those too someday :)

Favourite piece of clothing you own? My white body with red hearts on it from H&M, it is sooo cute! especially combined with a leather jacket and a poofie skirt ^_^

Favourite accessory? My candy bracelet, I made it myself out of fimo and has such lovely pastel colours!

Any bodymods? Oh I had a lot in the past but I've been cutting down. Now I own: 3 underlip piercings, 1 upperlip, septum, 2x nostril (1 on every side), 1 tongue, on both ears a stretch of 28mm. So the only ones I got left are on or around my face. And I got a octopus lady tattooed on my leg.

Biggest pet peeve about the goth scene? The arrogance

If you had the chance to meet any one in human history who would it be? Salvador Dali, I want a nice long chat with that man. His art fascinates me, but that's not all of it.

Any parting comments? No :)

The Righteous Bison

Our tale today takes place over a year ago whilst I was in my second year of uni at ANU in Canberra. Whilst shopping for textbooks in the on campus Co-Op, I happened across a charming book by the name of Dr. Grordbort Presents Victory: Scientific Adventure Violence for Young Men and Literate Women. It might be wise to note that although I have been interested in the steampunk scene for quite an amount of time, and elements of it well before I knew what steampunk was, it wasn't for quite a while after that I decided to start actively participating as a member of the subculture.

Stumbling upon this was my first exposure to the collections of Doctor Grordbort and thus began an insatiable lust towards the brand's ray guns. I um'd and ahh'd about whether or not to buy the book as cool as it was because as you can understand, a uni student's budget doesn't exactly allow for such luxuries. However I soon discovered something that made up my mind for me. It just so happened that there was a competition going on at the shop that month, that for each copy of 'Victory' sold the buyer got an entry into a draw for one of aforementioned ray guns. So naturally I had to enter.

I'm fairly sure that the model that was up for grabs was The Righteous Bison Indivisible Particle Smasher.

It turned out that only about 3 people, or some ridiculously low number around there entered the competition including myself and a friend of mine, Mitch. Naturally it was fate I would win right?

Wrong.

:P

Sorry to disappoint. Mitch won however, and he definitely was my second choice! :P However I'm writing this post today mainly to remind myself to buy one of these in August when they come back in stock in their New Zealand warehouse. (Thing is though, I would buy from the UK one but the postage would cost two and a half times what the actual ray gun itself costs! Bitch, please. I ain't payin' that!) That and to make everyone out there who isn't already aware of the existence of the magnificent feats of creativity!

So what else is new in the life of the Green Fairy? Well The Steampunk NSW Australia crew have been busy organising a big event for November going by the name of Drifting in Time: A Paddlewheel Adventure. It's going to be a Steampunk sci-fi themed ball! Anyway, I've been doing quite a bit of research for my costume over the last few days as I'm planning to go as my own take on some kind of steampunk'd borg drone. (If you don't know what a borg drone is kindly GTFO :P just kidding, but seriously...google that shit man.) Anyway so I'm planning on commissioning a custom version of one of Dominic Elvin Design's cybernetic head systems for my costume as well as wearing my Black Milk new liquids tights and adorning a crap load of corrugated tubing.

Head piece by Dominic Elvin Designs

I'll be sure to keep you updated on my progress right here.

Well that's about all for tonight, otherwise all I have to say is look out for the next instalment of Interview With a Goth in the very near future as well as some posts regarding Rococo fashion, as it's my current obsession!

Over and out my lovelies!

It's a Kind of Magic

On the weekend just gone whilst still recovering from the plague I headed up to the Blue Mountains for the Winter Magic Festival. A bunch of us from the New South Wales Steampunk crew marched in the parade up through the main street of Katoomba along with a fair few other groups of people. What can I say? What a blast! I met a lot of interesting people both on the day of the festival and then later in the evening at the Peasant's Ball at the Carrington.

I took my camera with me and took a couple of pics. Sorry if they're not that great technically, the lighting was quite horrible. I've done my best to fix them in photoshop.

In other news, my poll is just about over and it looks as though the majority of people would like to see 'Interview With a Goth' once a week. This may not always be possible but I'll try my best to keep it up that often. Belinda! You're the next victim so please gimme your email address! :P

There's a Zombie in Your Immune System

Sorry for my lack of posting lately my fellow bloggers and blog-readers (all 73 of you, eeep!). After spending the long weekend in Canberra, I got myself a nice case of bronchitis. So yesterday after seeing the doctor and toddling off to the pharmacy to get m'drugs (Oh and I had to have a blood test because my doctor thinks I'm anaemic again AND vitamin D deficient - I'm SOOO Gawth :P) I headed home and pretty much slept the whole day, only stirring from my slumber every now and then to hack up a lung or two. This really couldn't have come at a worse time what with Winter Magic up in Katoomba this weekend of which I was (am?) very much looking forward to attending. In fact the Steampunk Parade and then later in the evening, ball was my only solace after reading in a few of the blogs I follow that yesterday (or was it the day before?) was International Steampunk Day. Sigh, hopefully I'll be well enough to crawl out of this cesspool of mucus, tissues and germs that currently is my room and enjoy the festival (making up for my severe lack of Steampunkedness this week).

So! If you have any astounding home remedies for speedy recoveries from sickness, pleeease let me know.

Oh and I picked up my new 50mm lens whilst waiting for my script at the chemist yesterday and it feels so good to have one again. Felt naked without it.

Over and out lovelies

p.s. Please vote in my poll regarding interviews and if you select 'Other' be sure to lemme know what you mean by it :P Comment or email me at sydneysomething@hotmail.com

All I would need is the person's answers and a nice picture of them (with permission to use it of course).

I would also like your input on the questions, whether that be suggestions for more or even concerns about any ones I've answered myself (like..I mean are they too personal etc..) I was thinking this might be a monthly thing, but if it turns out moe popular than I could make it more often.
