Goth Challenge - Day 18 to 25

Worst hair experience.

When I was a kid, my mum used to brush my hair and she was never gentle. I have an overly sensitive scalp so every day it was agony. My mum got sick of my crying so she made me cut all of my hair off. I was already teased constantly at school as it was and after that it increased 10 fold because I looked revolting. I was already about a foot taller than everyone else, had massive glasses because my mum used my nanna's old frames to save money and now I had a disgusting haircut. Primary school wasn't all that pleasent.

Luckily enough when I hit high school I suddenly realised I hated everyone and didn't really care what they thought. I'd instead get extremely angry that skanky, dumb bitches at school thought they had the right to make my life hell. So eventually I stopped holding in my anger and I guess that's how I got the nickname 'the scary bitch' in senior years. Buuuut I've already gone off track so I'm not going into this any more :P

Share beauty advise and take a photo of your make up.

Well I'm not wearing any make up so I can't take a photo but I suppose I can share some beauty advice.

-How about giving the twirls and swirls on the sides of your face a rest for a while, hey?

-Sometimes wearing bright lipstick and eyeshadow together looks a little bit too much.

-Fake nails look like shit, and I fear if I say this those who wear them will scratch my eyes out; but yeah...They look cheap

If you could dye your hair any colour what would it be?

Greeeeen! :D I've wanted green hair for a long time and I love it. I also think one day I would like to try pure white long hair.

What body mod do you have or have you considered?

I have an industrial, both lobes, high cartilage piercing on the opposite side to the industrial (dunno the proper name for that) and septum.

In the past I have considered a labret, medusa and munroe but I'm unsure about getting any more facial piercings. Currently I'm considering getting my conch or tragus done, perhaps in celebration if I get this new job I'm going for next week in Melbz.

If you could attend any Goth event what would it be?

Whitby and WGT! I plan to attend both at some time during my life. I have a few mates that attend WGT every year, so hopefully I can go with them perhaps!

Your favourite artist or photographer.

Kate O'Brien is my favourite photographer.

Czech her out.

Name the best websites for Goths.

The Ultimate Goth Guide! :D I adore Amy, she's such a sweetie (and hopefully she gets her computer up and running again soon!).

Did you ever consider leaving the subculture?

I don't think it's possible, because it would mean leaving myself; and I'm not quite sure how to go about that :P But for a long time I didn't associate with other members of the subculture, and sometimes I wonder about my decision to start trying to make friends that share the love of the gothic subculture because there's a little too much drama involved in it for me...However I'm pretty good at avoiding the drama!

Busy Bumblebee

Gah sorry my posting has been somewhat crap lately, I'm moving on saturday and so I've been super busy organising that stuff and I'm generally exhausted after work lately.

So here are some pics I took at work when I was bored; hope they make up for it at least a little :P

My legs at work yesterday wearing Black Milk Cathedrals. Sooo pretty! I think they'll do well in the city of churches!

My legs today wearing Black Milk Big Blood Splatters! I'm still wearing them. One of my work mates kept calling me Dexter :P I can't wait to take these babies out to a Zombie Walk! I was actually quite surprised to find that they didn't look unflattering.

And a paper snowflake I made at work during all the times the computer froze; it was an unproductive day.

So once I get to melbz I should have plenty of time for photos hopefully!

Anyway gotta get back to packing (or...watching American Pickers :P)

Outfit Contest and Other Bits and Bobs

Hello my fellow darklings!

Today was a bit of a hectic day as it was my birthday! I turned 22 today, ergh I feel so old!

So my day started off with breakfast with my family in which I received a song and a bag of goodies!

Ellie and the newbie <3 (Was thinking of calling him elf...?)

In this photo you can see two elephants (yes they're elephants :P). The one of the left is Ellie (you might have seen me mention her before ^_^) and on the right is the new blue elephant mum and dad got me. He's a companion for Ellie whilst I'm at work in Melbourne apparently; isn't that cute?! ^_^ I also scored me some moneysss towards savings (or blackmilk >.> hehe)

Photo of my new iphone...Taken with my old iphone

I also got my new phone today, hurrah! So that is why all my photos today are not the usual SLR quality :P So without further ado, here is my outfit contest submission for The 'Goth and More' Blogging Community facebook group! I wore this today to work and lunch with my mum and friend Rosemary.

Epic forehead shot there Fairy... >.<

Kick the Crypt and Baby Walk With Me

Hello my lovelies! I hope everyone is well and I'd like to extend a welcome to my new followers! *waves*

Anyway, on with today's post;

Not too long ago I discovered the blog of a lovely Swedish lady, Angelica! Her blog, Murderotic is a tribute to the young goth's life and I find it rather interesting! Angelica is very pretty and I adore her style.

Anyway, it was a few particular posts recently that caught my eye and Angelica was nice enough to let me repost some of the pictures from them. This Swedish lass recently attended a zombie walk in her local area and her look is to die for! (literally :P)

So after being lucky enough to snag one of the last pairs of Black Milk's blood splatters last week and then seeing these amazing pictures; well, you can imagine my already passionate love of Zombies was re-ignited!

Black Milk's Big Blood Splatters

Absolutely love it! She's so gorgeous!

I'm now really fired up to try some sort of zombie look! I've done such looks before but never using liquid latex to make wounds or anything that detailed. Anyone with any skills in the area wanna give me some tips or if anyone knows of some good tutorials I'd love to check them out!

On another note, my birthday is on Thursday and I wanna dress up all pretty-like for work..I dunno what to wear! I'm thinking maybe my new drape skirt I bought second hand recently off the lovely Anneliese of Tentacle Threads! But then again...Matrix leggings...>.>

Bah it's not important I guess...Ergh and I'm really freaked out about turning 22 :/ It seems so old!

Anywaysss over and out darklings!

The Goth Challenge - Day 17

Your favourite Goth brand

I think it might be fairly obvious from my day 15 post that Gallery Serpentine is my favourite goth brand :D I've even been given a nickname by the Sydney store owner ^_^ She refers to me as the 'Gorgeous Green Princess'. It's really delightful for me as an avid fan of the brand!

The Goth Challenge - Day 16

What's the most casual you've ever dressed?

I used to go to exams, go to dinner at college and visit Mcdonalds in my pjs and bathrobe all the time when I was at uni :P

The Goth Challenge - Day 15

(I skipped 14 'cause all of my DIYs are disasters and I'm embarrassed to show them :P)

Your favourite or most expensive item in your wardrobe.

Geez, that's a hard one!

I can't say I have a single favourite (although I'm pretty smitten with my Matrix leggings I received in the mail yesterday!)

I might be able to narrow it down to...5 items maybe :P

  • Black Milk Matrix Leggings
  • Gallery Serpentine Eliza shirt
  • Gallery Serpentine Steampunk stripe corset
  • Lip Service Green Stripe Jeans
  • Berserk Hoodie

So my most expensive item would probably be my Black viletta skirt from Gallery Serpentine. It was $390. Although, as soon as I finish paying for it; my green Antoinette skirt will take the #1 spot. It's $520 O.O

Oh and today I'd like to wish a very Happy Birthday to Kitty ^_^ <3

So yesterday I was lucky enough to be bestowed with Dr Cult's award Le Blog Magique!

I started blogging about a year ago. It began as an attempt to fight boredom when I moved back to Orange from Canberra. I supposed in

What kind of magic do you bring to the lives of others?

I feel like I can help people (if they don't already have one) gain an appreciation for things outside the norm :)

I started blogging about goth fashion and I guess I still am, although I seem to incorporate a lot more of my personal life now.

I don't...think so?

A Guide To Live Concerts For the Inexperienced

So any Aussies out there watching Rage tonight will know what inspired this post :D

Seriously...The best Rage I've ever seen, Rob Zombie Guest programming FTW!

In any case, I thought it might be nice to write a few tips for those of you out there that might not be so knowledgeable when it comes to attending live performances of your favourite bands. I've been to many shows over the years and feel I've learnt the hard way about to 'to-do's and 'to-not-do's of the live music scene.

First and foremost,

1. Wear Comfortable Shoes.

If you're wearing shoes that rub when you're walking around all day at a festival or even just at a few-hour-long show (wear the pressures on your feet seem to equate to 5x the actual amount of time you spent on your feet) you're gonna get blisters. And then you're not gonna be able to stand, or if you do push through the pain you're not going to be able to devote your full concentration to the show.

Furthermore, if you're wearing heels you are going to break your ankle in a mostpit. And even if you're not standing in the moshpit area, your feet are gonna start whinging at you and you're gonna have to sit down. I can't tell you how many goth girls I've seen sitting against the walls of a venue alone and sullen-looking whilst their friends are off enjoying the show without them ('cause yeah, your friends aren't gonna wanna sit with you and your sore feet I'm sorry to say).

2. Wear Comfortable and Practical Clothes

Corsets and moshpits are like oil and water; they don't mix all that well (Though I did wear one at Emilie Autumn and it wasn't as bad as I had experienced at previous shows I'd been to). Not only are the restrictive but they tend to fall down and expose unmentionable areas of your person to strangers. So yeah, unless you're into voyuerism...Avoid corsets and/or low cut tops. I'd also recommend pants over skirts, though perverts will still have a go at feelin' up ya bits so be forwarned of that ladies :P

3. Wear Clothes You Can Learn To Live Without

By that I mean, don't wear anything that you'd cry if you lost/ripped/tore/ruined. I know, you wanna go out looking pretty and all that but seriously, once you're all sweaty and gross from jumping around/dancing/moshing you're gonna look like shit anyways in all likeliness so really, who cares?

This one I especially learned the hard way at Deathstars back a few years. I lost my favourite cameo, stained my favourite jabot and tore my favourite pants so badly in a place that required me to fashion a makeshift loincloth out of my newly purchased band t-shirt. Not.Happy.Jan.

4. Avoid Wearing Anything Sharp/Pointy

Just spare a thought for all the other party-goers out there for a second - Yeah spiked chokers and wristbands might look cool, but they don't look all that great when they're impaling you in the eyeball.

5. Don't Bring Anything Too Cumbersome

Heavy/large bags get old real quick. Plus they're even more of a pain when you've got people breathing down your neck and whacking it as they jump up and down. If you can't fit it in your pocket - leave it behind. Haven't got pockets? Use your bra. Not wearing a bra? Well why the fuck not, you're in a moshpit; those puppies need support :P

Some of these probably go without saying and of course they're not rules to live by or anything; rather guidelines to make sue you can concentrate all your attention towards the musicians :)

I hope this has been useful in any way shape or form (though I dubt it seeing as Amy's probably done something before that's better because she's fabulously insightful like that <3)

I should really sleep, seeing as it's 4am...

Goodnight lovelies!

The Goth Challenge - Day 13

What was your first band t-shirt?

A red Cradle of Filth shirt that was much too large for me :p This is the best picture I could find of it:

Can you see my natural eyebrows here? No? Don't worry, it's because they practically don't exist :P

I try not to wear my band t-shirts too much nowdays, but I still find myself reaching for them on casual days...

I have since collected a few more

I own:

2xCradle of Filth shirts
3xDeathstars Shirts
1xEmilie Autumn Shirt
1xRob Zombie Shirt
2xPiggy D Shirts
1xShiv-R Shirt
1xPink Rabbit Shirt

I think that's all :P

The Goth Challenge - Day 12

What's your gothic inspiration?

Long before this Green Fairy emerged from her tomboy shell, she always kept a strong love of anything Victoriana close to her black (and green!) little heart.

And I still do! It doesn't have to be goth in any facet, but anything from that fundementally-romantic era of human history incites such wistful longing in me and slight regret that I had to be born about a hundred and fifty years too late.

That's not to say that I'm not ridiculously grateful for flushing toilets, sanitary pads and women's suffrage!

Furthermore I don't know if this one needs o be said, but I guess I'm gonna say it anyway;

The Green Fairy

Malevolent, mysterious and green-hued; everything I aim for.

As for individuals...Well, where better to start then..

In the beginning, goth created ...

Wednesday 13 and Piggy D. (musician) (musician, designer)

(From left to right) Kid Kid, Piggy D., Wednesday 13 and Ghastly

Old school zombie flick music videos, sexy boys wearing make up, corny lyrics and bouncy tunes I like to call rockhorrorpop. What more could a budding babybat want I ask you?

Tarja Turunen (musician)

Oldskool Nightwish ftw

Nowadays I branched out into...

Emilie Autumn (musician/designer/author/model)

Antoinette Johnson (model)

G.D. Falksen (academic/model/personality)

Damn this man is talented, and so handsome. I'd toss my 'no-marriage-for-me' policy out the window in an instant for this man.

Ciewen Noor - Jenni Wimmerstedt (model/stylist)

Image via Jenni's facebook page

It took me the longest time to choose a picture of Jenni for this post, because I'm currently so in love with her look. She's so amazing...Most of my extravagant make up is inspired by her...

Robert Browning (poet)

Image via Google

I'm of the opinion that if you've never read any Robert Browning, you haven't lived. My favourites and two of his most famous works are 'The Laboratory' and 'Porphyria's Lover'. Read them. Now.

Adora Batbrat (model/personality/stylist/designer)

Image via Adora's blog.

It's pretty much at that stage where whether or not you like the lovely Mrs Batbrat, if you're goth you're gonna have to have heard of her at one stage or another...

Anachronaut (designer/model)

Dayum...He makes beautiful clothes for plays, and also awesome steampunk hairfalls. I want some.

The Goth Challenge - Day 11

Is Goth a lifestyle for you?

Um...Yes? I guess so anyway...

It's not like this green hair is a wig that I take off when I go outside or anything :P I love being goth, it's the only constant in my life that never lets me down (other than Ellie the elephant that is <3) At this point in my life I can't see myself changing for anything.

The Goth Challenge - Day 10

What do you hate and love about the subculture?

Love:

-The fashion and style (duh :p)
-Standing out from the crowd
-The tendency for other goths to greet you like you've met before (even though you haven't)
-The 'family' atmosphere I feel around others interested in the subculture
-The random compliments from strangers
-The double-takes
- The fact that the dancing at goth clubs/events is so much cooler/fun than at normal clubs
-That corniness is cool ^_^

Hate:

-Dealing with the people who feel the need to harrass you because of how you look
-The elitism
- The fact that I can never find anything I'm looking for in my clothes pile because everything is black :P
-That the pretty things cost so much :(
-Having to deal with sleazy guys who hit on you, thinking you're easy because you're goth
-The nasty snickering when people walk past you
-Being treated like a lesser being or not being taken seriously in society because you're goth

That's about all I can think of for now...

In other news here's a pic of my from yesterday in my new Elfs from Blackmilk. Sorry the pic is so bad. They're a beautiful green velvet, so soft...Mmmmmm

I realised this afternoon how freakin' close my birthday is (only 8 sleeps away >.<). I seem to get less and less excited about it every year that passes. This birthday is probably gonna suck because none of my friends are home so I'll probably spend it getting drunk alone packing for Melbourne.

I also seriously think I need rehab for my Blackmilk addiction... I bought two new pairs this week already! big blood splatters and Cathedrals. The blood splatters will probably look awful on me because they're white, but I figure I could wear some ripped black pants over them and they'd make an awesome zombie outfit addition (I LOVE dressing up as a zombie!). Plus if I really hate them I'm sure I'll have no issues passing them on to someone who missed out seeing as all these styles are being discontinued. I'm sad that I still haven't gotten confirmation that my Matrixes have been posted. I'm so worried I'm going to get an email saying something along the lines of 'Sorry, we over estimated how many pairs we had." :S I guess all I can do is wait and hope!

On another note I also received my custom green tights from Tentacle Threads today. The colour is freakin' AMAZING. I will hopefully get some nice pics of them this weekend.

Anyway, think that's about all for tonight.

Over and out!

The Goth Challenge - Day 8

What's your worst and best experience with non-Goths?

I've had multiple bad experiences some of which I'm sure have been mentioned before. The majority of my bad experiences have either been at the pub or around them (not that alcohol is an excuse!). I once was leaving a pub and two men approached me from behind and started abusing me and groping me. I told them to go away and fuck off and whatever but they persevered all the while two cops sitting in a car about 10 metres away sat watching and laughing.

I had another experience where this guy followed myself and a few friends whilst we were walking to a pub. He kept yelling at me how he wanted to fuck me but that he'd 'have to do it from behind so he didn't have to look at my hideous face'.

Furthermore once I was standing in line to get into a pub and a guy started abusing me about how disgusting I was. I told him to fuck off and he grabbed his crotch and told me to 'suck it'. I declined, saying I didn't bring the required microscope required to see it with me to the pub. The drunken idiot them responded with something along the lines of 'Yeah you'd need a big [microscope] one.' My friend whom I was standing with at the time and I looked at one another and burst out laughing. I guess he failed to understand that generally the bigger the microscope; the smaller the object to be examined. :P It's a bit of a running joke between my group of friends and I. :P

Other than those stand outs, mostly I just get called names by strangers and have obscenities yelled at me. It's mainly just like...Roll your eyes and move on. I'll never understand why people feel the need to do that.

I don't think there's been any stand outs as far as good experiences go. I was once out on the town gothed up when I was living in Canberra and it was a pretty great night. I had countless people compliment me and it made me feel fantastic; it was such a change. I was walking into town and I had a guy quiz me on how I get my hair so high and asked me where I'd been all my life. :P Another (really good looking) boy with a half shaved head told me I was the most exciting person he'd ever met :P Fun times...

I also have a memory from when I was a babybat where I was walking around my local town in my massive stompy Demonia wickeds. A whole family stopped me and told me how much they loved my boots because they were all massive KISS fans :P It was really cute. I also really like the random comments I get from little kids whenever I go to the supermarket.

Anyway that's about all I can think of for now.

Oh and I got my new Black Milks today, Black Dragon Snots and Elfs! Unfortunately the Elfs don't fit as well as my others because obviously the velvet doesn't stretch as well, but I feel it's motivation to lose some weight!

The Green Fairy's Picks

In relation to this post I did a little while ago about the possibility of a Blogging Community Compilation;

I created my own little playlist to show you guys how simple it is. It was originally a little different, but some of the songs I had in the playlist at first weren't available on iTunes, so I reworked it a bit :)

Click on the image to take you to the playlist in the iTunes store.

The Goth Challenge - Day 7

(I'm doing two today because I didn't do one yesterday.)

Ten of your favourite goth bands

These won't all be specifically 'goth' as such (as I'm not really into that many strictly 'goth' bands), but rather ones that are associated with/have elements of the subculture.

In no particular order;

1. Ashbury Heights

2. Marilyn Manson

3. Emilie Autumn

4. Covenant

5. The 69 Eyes

6. Voltaire

7. And One

8. Shiv-R

9. Apocalyptica

10. VNV Nation

All images sourced from Google

Edit: I realised after posting this I didn't really take the time to think this through, just listed the first bands that came to mind. I don't wanna change the above so I'll just a few more that I love just as much:

God Module, Aesthetic Perfection, Gothminister, Velvet Acid Christ, Combichrist, Detroit Diesel, Snog, Repear, Psyclon Nine, Neuroticfish, Nachtmahr, HIM, Freakangel, Grendel, Angelspit, Dawn of Ashes, Diary of Dreams, Jesus on Extasy, Leaves' Eyes, Malice Mizer, London After Midnight, Dope Stars Inc., Kidney Thieves, Deathstars (?goth?), Lennon Murphy
