The Goth Challenge - Day 1

Well I spotted this challenge on Juliet's Lace (as did a lot of my fellow bloggers I see) and thought I'd take part! :)

How did you come across the subculture?

So, I probably have mentioned this before; if so I'm sorry for the repetition!

I became quite self conscious when I first started reading a lot of blogs from other gothie types around the world, this being because I didn't really get into the goth subculture until a lot later in my life than a lot of you lovelies. Although I did recognise elements in my childhood that a lot of my now goth friends describe as being part of the subculture (which made me feel a bit better :p). I was always obsessed with anything fantasy, horror or sci fi as a kid; I loved to dress up and I was never interested in being the 'princess' of the story.

But apart from that I wasn't really aware of the subculture to be perfectly honest, that was until I met a boy at a friend's birthday party when I was 16. He was a metal head and was generally interested in gothic...stuff :P

Needless to say we started dating not long after and he often listened to bands like Cradle of Filth, Nightwish and Wednesday 13. After we broke up I started listening to the aforementioned groups (as although I was interested in them immediantly, I didn't want to appear as though I was just into them because he was) as well as started trawling the internet for other bands that I might like. And so began my metal head phase...

This lasted for a few years until I started discovering bands that tended to be more melodic and well...goth :p I found I preferred these over the general cacophonous-ness of a lot of metal bands out there.

Furthermore I had worn black quite a lot from a young age because I'd always been quite self conscious about being fat and well...Black is slimming :p Plus other colours were a bit too girlie for me, and I was a bit of a tomboy.

In any case, the more gothic bands I discovered, the more exposure I got to the subculture and the older I got the more money I had to start investing in garments, music and literature involved in the gothic world.

And I think that about concludes my story of coming into goth :)

Oh and p.s. Unfortunately I didn;t win a place in Black Milk's recent photo comp BUT I did find out today that I've scored myself a pair of Matrix leggings! I'm sooo happy as they're the style I've wanted for agesssss but they were release when I was on hiatus from BM for spending too much money >.> <.<

  1. Congrats on the leggings! <3

Stephie, how are you fat? You are insanely gorgeous, you madwoman. And you would still be gorgeous if you had the proportions of an average hippo. Which you don't.

Glad you are taking part in Juliet's challenge, I look forward to reading your posts. ^^

Honey, trust me; I could lose a few kilos. I love the slim and tall elegant look and I've got the tall down...But not the slim :P It'd be nice to wear some clothes that might be a bit more...Risqué and feel comfortable.
Aww Amy you're giving me cavities you sweety pie, you ;)

I dunno if mine will be very interesting to read about, I haven't got much of a history to my gothiness :P Technically I s'pose I'm still new to the goth scene; I'm just a fast learner ;)

p.s. I'm so happy when you comment :D
